So I saw Nat’s Cafe’s banana bread iced latte and I immediately needed to make my own version. She makes an actual banana bread syrup on the stove (genius, highly recommend if you want banana coffee on demand all week), but I’ve been making mine a totally different way for a while now and it might be even easier. no stove required.
Here’s my go-to: banana milk lattes.
Yes it’s exactly what it sounds like and yes it’s as good as it sounds.
WHAT YOU NEED
- 1 ripe banana (the spottier the better, trust)
- brown sugar
- a splash of maple syrup
- a dash of cinnamon
- your milk of choice
- a shot (or two) of espresso
- ice
- a [blender], this is doing the heavy lifting
HOW TO MAKE IT
- throw your banana, a spoonful of brown sugar, a drizzle of maple syrup, a dash of cinnamon, and your milk into the blender
- blend until it’s completely smooth, like genuinely no banana chunks allowed
- fill your glass with ice
- pour your banana milk over the ice
- add your espresso shot and watch it swirl together, this is the best part ngl
- stir and enjoy immediately
That’s it. That’s the whole recipe. No boiling, no syrup jars, no waiting around.
The banana flavor gets blended straight into the milk instead of sitting on top like a syrup, so it comes out unreasonably creamy. It kind of tastes like the banana became the milk instead of just flavoring it, if that makes sense.
now go have fun with it
Once you’ve got the base method down (blend, pour over ice, add espresso) you can basically flavor-swap your way into a million drinks. a few ideas:
- swap the banana for a ripe peach + a little vanilla if you want something brighter
- try dates + extra cinnamon for a fall-coded version
- got a milk frother? whip a small batch of your blended mix into a cold foam and pour it on top instead of mixing it all together
Coffee doesn’t have to be complicated to be good. Sometimes it’s just a banana and a blender.
