    Geimori GU38 Grinder Honest Review

If you’re looking for a compact, single‑dose burr grinder that feels just a step below prosumer, the Geimori GU38 is one that quickly lands on your radar. On paper, it checks a lot of boxes: 38mm conical burrs, stepless grind adjustment, and a sleek, minimal footprint that looks beautiful on a home coffee bar.

After personally spending time unboxing, setting up, and dialing it in across multiple brew methods, here’s my review on how it actually performs in everyday use.

Transparency Note: Wirsh kindly sent me the Geimori GU38 to test and review. Below are my honest thoughts and I hope they can help in any way possible.

    Unboxing & Setup

The unboxing experience is simple and straightforward. Inside the box, everything is securely packed with minimal excess packaging. The grinder itself feels high-quality the moment you lift it out — there’s a reassuring weight to it that immediately separates it from lighter, more plastic‑heavy entry‑level grinders.

Setup is refreshingly easy. There’s no complicated assembly required out of the box. Simply plug it in and you’re essentially ready to grind a perfect dose of coffee beans. For anyone upgrading from a blade grinder or pre‑ground coffee, this feels like a very approachable step into burr grinding.

    Design & Build Quality

Visually, the GU38 is clean and modern. It comes in either a sleek black or polished white, and the wooden hopper lid adds a beautiful accent.

Its compact footprint makes it ideal for smaller kitchens or apartment coffee stations, and it doesn’t dominate counter space. The mostly metal construction gives it a premium feel without pushing it into a high-end price category.

The layout is simple and intuitive. There aren’t unnecessary buttons or digital screens — just a straightforward on/off operation and a grind adjustment collar. If you appreciate minimal, functional design, this grinder fits that aesthetic well.

One small design element worth mentioning is the power cord plug. While the grinder itself is sleek and compact, the plug feels disproportionately large compared to the machine’s streamlined footprint. This won’t be an issue for some, but if you’re working with limited outlet space or a crowded coffee station, that bulkier plug can slightly interrupt an otherwise clean setup.

How to Take Care of Your Espresso Machine

    Stepless Adjustment & Grind Range

One of the standout features is the stepless grind adjustment. Instead of being locked into preset clicks, you can make micro-adjustments to dial in your grind size exactly where you want it.

In practice, this is especially helpful for dialing-in espresso. Small changes in grind size can make a big difference in shot time and extraction, and the GU38 gives you the control needed to fine‑tune. It also transitions well into coarser settings for pour‑over, AeroPress, and French press.

The range is versatile enough for someone who likes to rotate between brew methods without owning multiple grinders.

    Noise, Retention & Cleanliness

When I made a friend a coffee recently, she immediately commented on how much quieter the GU38 was than the grinder she uses at home.

Noise-wise, the GU38 performs well for its size and motor power.

It’s not silent (no electric burr grinder truly is), but it’s not harsh or high‑pitched, so early morning grinding won’t feel aggressive or disruptive.

Retention is relatively low when everything is flowing properly. Most of your dose makes it through the burrs cleanly, and the interior doesn’t seem to trap excessive grounds during normal use. Cleanup is simple: a quick brush around the chute and occasional deeper clean keeps things tidy.

That said, retention and flow are closely connected with this grinder. While it’s designed for single dosing, bean movement through the hopper isn’t always perfectly smooth.

When beans feed properly, grind consistency is solid for the price point. Espresso shots can be dialed in with some patience, and pour‑over grinds come out relatively uniform.

However, my biggest critique about the GU38 is that part of the dose can sometimes get stuck in the hopper and doesn’t always feed cleanly into the burrs. You may find yourself tapping or nudging the hopper to keep everything moving.

It’s not a dealbreaker — but it does interrupt the workflow more often than I’d like and is worth mentioning.

    Pros & Cons

    Pros

    • Compact and attractive design
    • Solid build quality with metal components
    • Stepless grind adjustment for multiple brew methods
    • Relatively quiet motor for its category

    Cons

    • Beans can stick in the hopper and require manual assistance
    • No automatic shut-off when grinding is complete
    • Bulky power cord plug

I’ve also done similar reviews on two other grinders by Wirsh. I’ll link them below and encourage you to give them a look!

    Final Thoughts

The Geimori GU38 sits in an interesting middle ground. It looks premium, offers a flexible grind range, and performs well when everything is flowing properly. For someone upgrading from a basic blade grinder or entry-level burr grinder, it can feel like a big step up.

That said, a few workflow quirks keep it from feeling fully polished.

If you value compact design and flexibility and don’t mind a slightly more hands-on experience, the GU38 could work well in your setup. But if you’re looking for seamless, effortless operation every single morning, you may find yourself wishing for a few more refinements.

  • Geimori T38 Review

Portable, pro-grade performance for coffee lovers anywhere

Transparency Note: Wirsh kindly sent me the Geimori T38 grinder to test and review.

    The Geimori T38

The Geimori T38 positions itself as a true pro‑grade portable coffee grinder—a bold claim in a market crowded with travel grinders. I’ve been using the T38 in everyday brewing, travel scenarios, and across multiple brew methods to see how it really performs.

This review covers who this grinder is for (and who it’s not), real‑world performance, pros and cons, and whether it’s actually worth adding to your coffee setup.

    Geimori T38 Grinder, portable grinder

    At a Glance

    • Size: 7.3 inches tall (it’s small!)
    • Burrs: 38 mm stainless steel conical burrs
    • Adjustment: 80 settings allowing for 0.01mm microadjustments
    • Battery: 3600 mAh rechargeable battery
    • Charging: USB‑C
    • Power: Cordless electric
    • Best for: Espresso, pour‑over, drip, travel brewing, limited spaces

    What Is the Geimori T38?

The Geimori T38 is a cordless electric burr grinder designed for coffee drinkers who want high‑quality grinding without being tied to a countertop or power outlet. Unlike many portable grinders that feel like a compromise, the T38 aims to deliver serious grind quality in a compact, travel‑friendly form.

With 38 mm conical burrs, stepless grind adjustment, and a large rechargeable battery, it’s built to handle everything from daily home brewing to weekend camping trips.

    Unboxing & First Impressions

Right away, the T38 feels intentional. The build is solid, the components feel well‑made, and nothing about it feels cheap or disposable. This is not a grinder that feels like an afterthought—it feels designed for long‑term use.

Setup is simple, intuitive, and beginner‑friendly, which makes it approachable even if you’re newer to grinding fresh coffee at home.

    Design & Build Quality

The Geimori T38 strikes a strong balance between durability and portability.

    • Compact & travel‑ready: Easy to pack, easy to store, and doesn’t take up unnecessary counter space.
    • Sustainable and durable construction: The T38 is designed without plastic and is constructed with aluminum alloy and SUS420 stainless steel.
    • Aesthetics: The T38 comes in white, silver, or black, and is topped off with the accented lid made from solid walnut wood.
    • Easy maintenance: Low retention and removable parts make cleaning quick and painless—especially helpful if you rotate beans often.

    Performance & Daily Use

    Grind Quality

For a portable electric grinder, the T38 delivers impressively consistent results. The stepless grind adjustment allows for precise control, making it easy to dial in for different brew methods.

    Battery Life & Charging

The 3600 mAh battery is a standout feature. In regular use, I was able to go many days—and several brew sessions—without needing to recharge.

Wirsh claims “the T38 delivers up to 15 grams of coffee 80+ doses on a single charge” — and I don’t doubt it.

USB‑C charging makes it convenient and future‑proof, especially for travel when you don’t want to pack extra cables.

    Noise & Speed

The grinder isn’t silent, but it’s honestly the quietest grinder I’ve ever owned.

Grind speed varies depending on the setting, with finer grinds and bigger doses taking longer. The motor was observed as very consistent and reliable for each grinding period.

When grinding for espresso, it took about a minute for 9 grams of beans to be ground and about a minute and a half for 18 grams. Of course the timing will vary depending on the characteristics of your beans, so make sure to have fun and experiment to find out what works best for you and your preferred coffee beans.

    Digital Display

There is a digital display right above the power button, making it easy to check the grinder’s battery percentage with a single click of the power button.

When you begin grinding (two clicks of the power button), the display switches to a grind timer. This small feature makes a big difference in daily brewing, helping you dial in more easily and repeat grind times for more consistent results cup after cup.

    Cleanliness

One thing I really appreciate about the Geimori T38 is how clean it is to use—especially for a portable electric grinder. The low-retention design means very little coffee is left behind after grinding, which helps keep flavors from mixing when you switch beans.

The grounds fall neatly into the magnetic catch cup with minimal mess, and I rarely notice stray fines on the counter. When it comes time to clean, the grinder is easy to disassemble without tools, making it simple to brush out residual grounds and keep everything fresh.

    Real‑World Use

    Home Brewing

In a home setup, the T38 works well as a daily driver—especially if counter space is limited. It’s quick to grab, easy to adjust, and simple to store when not in use.

    Travel & On‑the‑Go

This is where the T38 really shines. Whether you’re traveling, camping, or brewing away from home, it delivers fresh‑ground coffee without the hassle of manual grinding or searching for an outlet.

Wirsh also offers a portable travel bag for separate purchase, which would be a great investment when you need something to transport with.

    • Anyone looking for the cheapest possible grinder (though it’s worth noting that when I was writing this post, the grinder was 50% off, so deals do happen!)

    Pros & Cons

    Pros

    • High‑quality, durable build
    • Consistent grind performance across brew methods
    • Long‑lasting battery with USB‑C charging
    • Stepless adjustment for precision
    • Truly portable and practical

    Cons

    • Not a full replacement for premium espresso grinders
    • Finer grind settings take more time

    Final Thoughts

The Geimori T38 successfully delivers what it promises: pro‑grade performance in a portable, cordless design. It’s not trying to replace a top‑tier café grinder—and it doesn’t need to. Instead, it fills an important gap for coffee lovers who want quality, flexibility, and freedom in how and where they brew.

If you want a grinder that can keep up with your daily routines and also your adventures, the Geimori T38 is a strong, well‑rounded choice that I feel comfortable recommending.

Why This Grinder Caught My Attention

Coffee is one of the ways I slow down and create moments of stillness, creativity, and connection.

When Wirsh reached out and offered to send me their Geimori T38 Plus grinder to test, I was very excited—especially because I had heard good things about its burr design and grind consistency. After using the Geimori T38 Plus for a few weeks, I’m sharing my honest thoughts in hopes that it can help the greater coffee community and anyone considering this grinder. (Spoiler alert: It’s a great grinder.)

    First Impressions: Unboxing & Design

Right out of the box, the Geimori T38 Plus feels premium. The aluminum build gives it a durable, premium feel, and the wooden accents add a warm, intentional touch that looks beautiful on any coffee bar.

The design is compact, which is extremely appreciated by someone like me who has limited space. It was noticeable that the power cord plug is fairly large. This didn’t cause a problem for me, but it may be difficult for those who have crowded outlet spaces.

One thing I appreciated immediately is that the grinder is completely plastic-free, which not only adds to its durability and premium feel but also aligns with a more sustainable and long-lasting coffee setup.

    Setup

If you’re like me, it’s always slightly frustrating when a product you receive makes you go through a long and complicated setup process before you can actually use the product.

Thankfully, the Geimori T38 Plus requires very little setup. The process is as simple as plugging it in, turning the dial to your desired grind size, and then pressing one button before you have quality freshly ground coffee.

    Performance Review: The Honest Breakdown

    Grind Quality & Consistency

The Precision 38mm 6-Axis Conical burrs provide a clean, consistent grind that allows for you to craft a consistent flavor extraction when brewing. Even on coarser settings for cold brew, the particles stayed uniform without random boulders.

    Speed & Noise

It grinds at a moderate speed—not the fastest, not the slowest. Noise level is also moderate. Not whisper-quiet, not overly loud. Personally, the sound doesn’t bother me at all.

    Ease of Use

The grind dial is intuitive, and switching from medium to fine is smooth and accurate. There’s truly no learning curve.

To start grinding, there is one button–the power button.

    Retention & Cleanliness

The zero-retention design shines. What you put in is almost exactly what you get out, which allows for much more control and precision in your brewing routine.

The anti-static tech also makes cleanup minimal. The magnetic dosing cup seems to catch all of the coffee grounds. Out of all of my brewing equipment, the Geimori T38 Plus definitely wins for being the cleanest.

Note: One thing I noticed while using is that sometimes a few beans remain in the hopper instead of feeding fully into the burrs. A gentle tap on the side of the grinder helps them fall through so everything gets ground. Not a dealbreaker, but worth mentioning.

  • What Does “Purge Your Grinder” Mean?

What Does “Purge Your Grinder” Mean?

What Does “Purge Your Grinder” Mean?

    Coffee Grinder Maintenance Explained

If you’re just starting your coffee journey or diving deeper into the world of specialty brewing, you’ve probably heard the term “purge your grinder.” But what does that actually mean, and why is it important for making great coffee?

    Let’s break it down…

Close-up of a barista using a coffee grinder with a portafilter. Warm and inviting cafe setting.

What Does “Purge Your Grinder” Mean?

To purge your grinder means to run a small amount of coffee beans through your grinder and discard the grounds before grinding your actual dose for brewing. This is typically done when:

    • You’re switching between different types of beans.
    • Your grinder has been sitting unused for a while.
    • You’ve just adjusted the grind size.
    • You’re about to dial in a new espresso shot.

Think of it as a way to clear out old grounds and stale coffee oils that may have been left behind from the previous grind.

    The Best Coffee Storage Containers

Why Should You Purge Your Grinder?

Even the best grinders retain some amount of coffee between the burrs and the chute. This leftover coffee is called retention, and it can affect the taste and consistency of your next brew. Here’s why purging matters:

    1. Ensures Freshness

Old, oxidized coffee particles can make your next cup taste bitter or flat. A quick purge helps you start with only freshly ground coffee.

    2. Improves Accuracy

When you’re dialing in espresso or changing your grind size, purging removes old grounds that don’t reflect your new setting—ensuring more precise extraction.

    3. Prevents Flavor Contamination

If you’re switching from a fruity Ethiopian to a bold Sumatran, purging helps avoid cross-flavor contamination between beans.

How Much Coffee Should You Purge?

The amount depends on your grinder’s retention. A good rule of thumb:

    • Home grinders (like Baratza or Fellow Ode): purge 1–2 grams.
    • Commercial espresso grinders: purge 3–5 grams or more.

You can test your grinder’s retention by weighing the input and output of coffee before and after use.

Baratza Encore ESP Coffee Grinder ZCG495BLK, Black

When Should You Purge Your Grinder?

Here are the key times to do a purge:

    • ☕ Before making your first coffee of the day
    • ⚙️ After adjusting your grind size
    • 🔄 When switching coffee beans
    • 🧼 After cleaning your grinder

Making purging a habit helps keep your coffee tasting consistent and clean, especially important for espresso lovers.

Bonus Tip: Use the Purge for Compost!

Even though you’re discarding the purge grounds, don’t throw them in the trash. Used coffee grounds are great for composting or even deodorizing your fridge!

Purging your grinder is a small step that makes a big difference in your coffee practice. Keeping your grinder clean and purged helps ensure clarity, freshness, and flavor consistency in every cup.
